It is located in one of the most beautiful buildings in Mexico City’s downtown. His monumental My Fathers, which is in the permanent collection at the National Museum of Mexican Art, in Chicago, IL, was created by the latter method. National Art Museum Centro, Mexico This amazing museum has over 3,000 pieces of art, mainly paintings made from the 16th century to the first half of the 20th century. The art is Hispanic in culture, diverse and outstanding. It houses some of the best temporary exhibitions that come to the country, as well as great music, dance and theater shows. This museum is an underappreciated attraction in Chicago. In its interior we can admire spectacular murals of artists like Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, Rufino Tamayo and Siqueiros. Palacio de Bellas Artes Ejido del Centro, Mexico The Palace of Fine Arts is the maximum house of art in Mexico. Museo Memoria y Tolerancia Ciudad de México, Mexico This place is highly recommended because even though it presents very difficult and sad world issues (genocides, discrimination and violence), it gives a great museum experience to all its visitors, while promoting respect and tolerance for human diversity. If you’re around Bosque de Chapultepec, is a good site to visit. Museo de Arte Moderno Ciudad de México, Mexico This museum houses extraordinary temporary exhibitions of modern art, both by Mexican and international artists. The castle is located on top of a hill so the panoramic views from its gardens and terraces are amazing. It’s better to come on weekdays.Ĭhapultepec Castle Ciudad de México, Mexico This beautiful palace houses the National Museum of History which exhibits different collections of treasures that have seen the history of Mexico, such as furniture, paintings, clothing, coins, etc. Its exhibition is so large that it can be overwhelming, so take a good time to visit it or focus on the areas of the most popular cultures like Mayan, Aztec (or Mexica) and Teotihuacan. For more information, visit Nacional de Antropología Ciudad de México, Mexico This museum has the most important collection of anthropological and ethnographic pieces of pre-Hispanic cultures in Mexico. Yollocalli's audio storytelling and radio program provides an outlet for bilingual and bicultural youth to share their own voice and represent their community through reporting and storytelling. I think that should be a museum's role: to not just say ‘this is the reality’ but instead with your community, create that dialogue and arrive at other perspectives with.
Yollocalli offers youth ages 13-24, free visual arts and digital media programs and events. That approach of respecting the perspectives of native communities is why Vargas Plata said the National Museum of Mexican Art is the right place for this exhibition.
